For decades, Africa has been the destination of explorers, adventurers and scientists. Animals, jungles, plants and several tribes of Africa led them to search more and more places inside Africa. As of now, the development of many African cities into metropolitans and the increasing number of tourist attractions in Africa is further adding to Africa’s popularity. Travelers and tourists from around the globe are now facing Africa for holidaying and vacationing. People are becoming more aware of Africa but little do they know about the festivities and events of Africa. If termed as the continent of festivals and celebrations, Africa would be perfectly described.

There would hardly be any time of the year when there are no festivals going on in the continent that’s why almost all airlines schedule Africa flights with confidence. The festivals relate to everything from history to religion to politics to arts to literature to agriculture and just anything at all.

It is not possible to discuss all the events and happening of Africa, as they are simply innumerable. However, to discuss a few would be sufficient to tell the world how joyful and fun loving, the nature of African people is. Some of the most important events of the continent are:

Faspaco African Film Festival:

It is the biggest African Film festivity that displays African movies. It is held in Burkina Faso.

Panafest:

Hosted by Ghana, the festival is an effective promotion of African dance, culture and other performing arts. It is held every two years and also symbolizes oneness of all the African countries.

Bouake Carnival:

This is a weeklong carnival held in Ivory Coast every March attracting many visitors to the country.

Durbar festival:

This event in Nigeria is hosted at the two Islamic events of the “Eid”. It marks the Islamic culture of the emirates.

International Camel Derby & Festival:

This Kenya festival does not only offer camels’ races but holds a series of events and is simply an enjoyment. It has attracted tourists and participants from around the world especially Europe, Australia and the United States.

Nairobi International Book fair:

So far, it only housed publishing books, articles and papers from within Kenya but has now extended to worldwide publishing and is expected to catch the world’s eye.

Sahara Marathon:

It includes living on and running in the spectacular Sahara Desert. It’s a beautiful rejoicing.

Egyptian Maraton _Luxor:

This is an international marathon with participants from 36 countries. It’s a world famous event.

Cairo Film Festival:

The festival was started since the first motion pictures were introduced. Cairo, the cultural hub of the Arab world, hosts this one of a kind event and is called the “Hollywood of Middle East”.

Moroccan Moroccan Sacred Fez Music Festival & Tour:

The event is based on spiritual dances and performances basically, but not limited to just Islamic Sufism. It invites performers from around the globe and highlights spirituality of many cultures.

Where South Africa is host to mostly big sports events, other events of Ethiopia, Kenya, Zanzibar, Mali, Ghana and some other countries provide a more African feeling. They are related to the religious beliefs and history of Africa hence they are far more interesting. Such events include dancing, singing, hooting, howling, making fun of hunger, animal parades and even naked walks in the streets of villages. During these events, people dress up in typical African styles which make them glamorous and interesting in their own special way.

Hence African events have never ending stories. The only solution to explore this exuberance is to pay a long and detailed visit to Africa. So don’t waste your time and book your cheap flights to Africa for participating in the event that is going to be held in the same or next month.

Yeah well said.. There are number of festivals which occur in South Africa as well... Being a citizen of Cape Town i would like to suggest Cape Town International Comedy Festival, The Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour and North Sea Jazz Festival to you people.

There are numerous other events and festivals which are held in different cities of South Africa so to celebrate these events we welcome you to our country.

Festivals are the only way to spread any particular culture. These events and festivals should be supported by the Government of the country. Actually I was a member of an NGO that is used to support and spread African culture world wide. I have been to Morocco once and there I have celebrated 2 famous festivals, these are. Moroccan Moroccan Sacred Fez Music Festival and Marrakech Popular Arts Festival. Believe me by celebrating these events I came to know the real culture of Morocco.

That’s right; Africa’s festivals really never let you get bored! If you ever get a chance, try to attend the Zimbabwe International Music Festival. Trust me, it’s an awesome event, one of the best that Africa offers. The event welcomes musicians from all around the world and a wide variety of music is resented. In a nutshell, this festival is a complete fun, excitement and enjoyment. “Rockz” is right, if you once get to attend the Eyo festival, you’ll never forget it. The masquerade of Eyo festival won’t let you shut your camera…!

Nice article, really inviting and makes me wanna visit Africa. According to my further research, Nigeria is the only great country of Africa that celebrates awesome festivals throughout the year. I’m a Travel editor and I’m thinking about experiencing these festivals personally and write it all down. It’s going to be great! I’ll visit Nigeria very soon, it’s being planned. Speaking of Nigerian festival; Eyo, the Shadi, Durbar, Benin and Shango are the most vibrant festivals held in the region.

Have anyone participated in Cape Town International Comedy Festival? If no, then it’s a highly recommended event to be celebrated in Africa. It’s the largest African festival. Comedians from around the world participate in the event. During the event the whole Cape Town loaded with the laughter of audiences and viewers.

Wow that’s great I never knew that you people have so much information about African events and festivals. By the way thanks Shaun and Anglina for your appreciation. I am looking forward to write something more about Africa and African Best Beaches are on top of my List.

Chris actually some of these events are celebrated according to local calendars that’s why i didn’t mention their exact dates which can cause confusion. If you really want to get the exact dates then you can Google in over internet.
